The Girls Varsity Volleyball team lost 0-3 in a non-league game to Tesoro High School on Tuesday, September 13. After the game, UHS is currently ranked number 31 in the Southern Section Division III rankings, one spot below Irvine High School while Tesoro is now ranked number 16 in the Southern Section Division l rankings.
The Trojans entered the match with high hopes, yet they came up just short 21-25 in the first set.
“We battled in that first game and there are a lot of positives we as a team can take away from that.” Bella Oldham(Sr.) said.
From there, Tesoro took over with two straight wins. UHS lost 15-25 in the second game, but showed renewed energy after that. However, they stumbled to 17-25 in the third game.
“Our best plays are always the transition plays,” middle blocker Sophie Lawrence(Sr.) said, “Those are plays when we dig a hit from the other team and then set up our own offense and get a kill.”
Even though UHS walked away with a loss, they competed well for the first game against a Division l Southern Section team.
University holds a 1-7 record so far and plays Laguna Hills High School in their final pre-league game on Tuesday, September 20 before heading into season. Their first league opener is an away game against Irvine on September 22.
