Girls Varsity Tennis opened league with a 13-5 victory over Beckman on Thursday, September 22. Currently ranked second in the county, the Trojans are now one win closer to taking the number one spot over Corona Del Mar.
UHS Varsity singles faced a formidable singles opponent in Beckman’s number one ranked player Ashley Teng, losing all three matches against her. However, UHS singles bounced back in a clean sweep over Beckman’s second and third ranked players, winning 6 sets out of 9.
The UHS Varsity doubles overpowered Beckman’s doubles team with an overall score of 7 wins out of 9 sets under the leadership of Co-Captains Ashlyn Wang (Sr.) and Kayla Agustin (Jr.).
“We came out really strong today and set a good precedent for the rest of the season,” singles player Tiffany Markus (Jr.) said “I think as long as we continue to try our best and play fearlessly we have a good chance at getting deep into CIF.”
After this match, the Trojans are a solid 4-1 in season and are slated to play against league leaders CDM on September 29. A victory over the Sea Kings will place the Trojans on top of the OC leaderboards.
