The Habit Burger Grill is a newly opened restaurant in Campus Plaza that specializes in charbroiled burgers. In addition, it also offers fresh salads and a wide variety of sides, shakes and malts. Veggie burgers are also available for any vegetarians.
Construction of the new store started in early March, not long after the former Koba Tofu House was closed. The Campus Plaza branch is the restaurant’s third store in Irvine.
I went during lunch on a Thursday, a particularly busy time since many students from UHS and UCI were trying out this new spot. Although the line extended outside the door, I spent less than five minutes in line. I was given a buzzer for my order and received my food in less than ten minutes.
For my food, I ordered an Original Charburger with cheese at an extra cost. It included mayonnaise, pickle, fresh tomato, lettuce and caramelized onions on a toasted bun. It was my first time trying out a Charburger, and I enjoyed the taste. The mayonnaise and onions gave the meat patty a strong flavor, but the lettuce and tomato neutralized the saltiness. Overall, the burger was fresh and juicy since it was made-to-order and the customers can request to take off any ingredients of the burger.
I also tried out the highly-recommended Vanilla Shake. The sweetness and portion size were just right, and the optional addition of whipped cream was smooth. The drink as a whole was creamy and refreshing.
The ambience added to the pleasant experience. Inside, the restaurant had an orange color scheme. The floor and the drink station were clean and the employees were friendly.
The outside seating can be a good way to enjoy the delicious food as well. The tables are covered with umbrellas and could be adjoined for larger-sized groups.
The Habit has certainly become one of UHS students’ favorite lunch spots, especially with the buzzer system. “It’s a service I find to be extremely convenient and improves my overall experience,” Eric Xu (Sr.) said. “It distinguishes The Habit from other burger joints in the area.”
The restaurant is a bit on the pricier side, with my total bill coming down to almost $8 for one burger with cheese, plus a vanilla shake. However, the quality and variety of the food were well worth the price.
