Girls Varsity Tennis unravelled Irvine in a 14-4 whitewash during their away league game last Thursday. Going into the game ranked second in the county and fifth in CIF, the Trojans showed their class over the overmatched and unranked Vaqueros. The win extended UHS’s victory streak over Irvine to over five years.
Dana Feng (So.) swept her singles matches, with scores of 6-1, 6-2, and 6-1. Kamar Alajeely (So.) tacked on two victories as well, winning both 6-1. Ashlyn Wang (Sr.) and Sasha Iraniha (Jr.) won their doubles match 6-0, before subbing out.
This victory was a good bounce back game for UHS, coming off their second tough loss against unbeaten CdM. The Sea Kings currently sit atop the county and CIF rankings.
Although they came in off a loss, the Trojans were brimming with confidence throughout the game. Tiffany Markus (Jr.) said, “This game today was like any other match this season, and we just continued to play our best while supporting each other along the way.”
The 95 degree heat could have been an issue, but despite the circumstances, the game closed with a Trojan victory. Snigdha Vayalapadu (Jr.) said, “Although today was a [very] hot day, we all made sure to hydrate throughout our matches and play our normal offensive game.”
The Trojans now look forward to their pink-out GOW on Monday against Woodbridge. The game will also be the girls’ last game before Pacific Coast League finals.
