At the Mt. SAC Cross Country Invitational this past weekend, the Girls Cross Country team finished seventh out of twenty teams while the Boys team finished seventeenth out of twenty. The team ran a steep 3-mile course in Mt. San Antonio College, a competition they go to every year.
The event had ten varsity divisions, totaling over 1300 runners. In addition, there were Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior Varsity teams participating. Girls Varsity runner Madeleine Boschen (Jr.) finished 50th in her division out of 167 runners with a time of 22:09, helping the Trojans finish twelfth out of nineteen teams.
The fastest runner on the girls team, Cecilia Langlois (So.), finished in second place out of 133 runners in the division. With a rapid time of 18:56, she averaged 6:19 per mile. The underclassmen were the stars of the meet, as they consisted of UHS’s top five runners.
The boys team had a tougher time on the course of Mt. SAC. Once again, an underclassmen took the fastest spot for the Trojans. Ryan Duffy (Fr.) finished sixty-sixth out of 132 runners in the division with a time of 17:46. He was closely followed by Captain Zach Dignan (Sr.), who ran a 17:51.
“These next 2 weeks we plan to stay focused on trying to speed up our pace and being ready mentally to push ourselves during practice and the race,” Varsity runner Christian Go (Jr.) said.
The team looks forward now to the league final at Mason Park next Thursday.
