The Boys Varsity Soccer team won their first preseason match up of the season 1-0 against Brea Olinda this past Tuesday, November 29. The Trojans were in uncharted territory, as they had not played the Wildcats in over five years, yet they came out on top in a close match.
UHS came into the match looking to press and force a mistake from the back line. Their tactics soon paid off, as a long throw-in from Evan Mouchard (Jr.) found its way to Julian Ricci (Sr.), whose flick-on to Luis Moros (So.) was finished clinically. That was enough for the Trojans, as they blanked the Wildcats to hold on.
The team will be happy if they continue to keep clean sheets. Goalkeeper Jimmy Choi (Jr.) was happy with his team’s performance.
“I thought for our first preseason game we looked sharp; everyone came onto the field maintaining our quick tempo and high intensity,” Choi said. “Overall I think this win is a step in the right direction and look forward to a good season.”
With 8 games remaining in their preseason schedule, the Trojans will look to improve and get into good season form. They now look forward to their first away fixture, against Huntington Beach.
