Girls Varsity Water Polo falls to Laguna Hills by a final score of 13-6. With this loss the Hawks have claimed their fourth win over the Trojans in the last four years.
Throughout the first quarter, the Trojans and the Hawks were neck and neck. After being up 2-1 at the end of the first, the Hawks scored five consecutive goals by the end of the first half. The Trojans were on 10 power plays throughout the first half.
The girls felt frustrated that they were unable to take advantage of the extra man chances.
“We just could not put the shots away,” Captain Gauvri Nathwani (Sr.) said. “Everyone was a little panicked.”
The first goal made by UHS came early in the first quarter on a powerful shot by Chandlyr Denaro (Sr.).
In the third quarter, the Trojans were able to shutout the Hawks and score twice on a penalty by Denaro and a lob shot by Nathwani. Entering the final period, the score was 7-3 in favor of the Hawks.
In the last quarter, the Trojans doubled their score, however Laguna was able to score with constant and efficient drives. . The Hawks went on to score six more goals in the final minutes of the game and ultimately won 13-6.
“The girl’s seemed distraught and too dependent on Chandlyr,” spectator and boys polo player Kevin Cho (So.) said.
All six of the goals scored were from Nathwani and Denaro.
