Boys Varsity Soccer continued their unbeaten run with a 5-1 victory over Rancho Alamitos. Their form has been excellent all season, with no losses and only one draw that came against Kennedy. They currently stand at 8-0-1, the draw being the only blemish in what has been a perfect season thus far.
The Trojans were led by a hat-trick from Sam Kelley (Jr.) , along with a brace from Pedro Palmaka (So.). Palmaka tacked on two assists as well. Keeper Danyal Shamloo (Sr.) got his first start of the season, and although he will be disappointed not to keep a clean sheet, he made three saves and directed his defense well throughout the game.
The main asset of the Trojans all season has been their stingy defense. They have allowed only 5 goals all season, and in no game have they conceded more than one goal. This has been in large part due to the commanding leadership shown by captain Jimmy Choi (Jr.), who has 12 saves on the season. The team has effectively turned that into offensive productivity, scoring quickly on the counter. Through their quick pace, UHS has forced 29 goals, giving them a +20 goal difference.
The team has also shown great cohesion thus far. Leading goal-scorer Luis Moros (So.) said, “Our team has very good chemistry and we have just been playing so well together that we have gone undefeated.”
UHS looks ahead to their next fixture, a road match against Beckman on Thursday, January 5. They will look for revenge after losing their only matchup against the Patriots 2-1 last season.
