Boys Varsity Soccer continued their incredible season with a 2-0 victory over Beckman High School on Thursday, January 26. Standing with a record of 13-1-1, the Trojans are currently ranked second in the Pacific Coast League and are at the heels of first ranked Corona del Mar High School.
In the first minute of the match, forward Pedro Palmaka (So.) threaded the needle with an assist to forward Sebastian Hertel (So.), giving the Trojans an early 1-0 lead over the Patriots. This was followed by effective defense on both sides, keeping the score locked at 1-0 at halftime.
In the second half, UHS continued their stellar defensive effort. Midfielder Luis Moros (So.) scored a stunning goal to give the Trojans a 2-0 lead, securing the win. Nearing the last few minutes of the match, captain and goalkeeper Jimmy Choi (Jr.) had a brilliant save that tipped a would-be goal for Beckman onto the crossbar, tallying yet another clean sheet.
Following their commanding victory over Beckman, left-back Navid Maghami (Jr.) said “If we keep on playing with this much heart and passion, we will likely be winning a lot more than just these couple of games.”
Following this victory, the Trojans are making great progress in their journey to a League title. UHS will play Northwood next at home on Tuesday, January 31.
