Ms. Cidne Rector (SAC) will retire from her position as the head of the SAC Office for University High School this February after 17 years of service. Although her replacement has not yet been determined, the administration has advertised the opening and will conduct interviews to choose a new accounting clerk.
“This office is like a little business on its own; we do sales, payables, purchasing and month-in financial reports for clubs,” Rector said .
Rector handles all ASB funds, which includes money from clubs, athletics, academics and donations. She manages close to $1.5 million in income over the course of the year and manages over 300 club and organization accounts for UHS.
Rector and her eventual replacement will work together over the next month to allow for a smooth transition and to mitigate negative impacts on the functionality and efficiency of the office, clubs and ASB.
“Of course, there will be a learning curve for the new person occupying that position, but as is the UHS tradition, custom and culture, we will make sure they get the support needed to be successful and serve the students’ needs,” Mr. Matthew Pate (Admin.) said.
“I think juggling priorities is important in this office. The hardest thing to deal with is figuring out the priorities and the order: making sure that the bills get paid, the money gets deposited and everyone is happy,” Rector said. “I’ve been here 17 years, and I’ve had 17 years to learn and organize and figure out what works and what’s the best way to do things. The new person is going to be overwhelmed, and club advisors and treasurers need to have patience with the new person.”
Many students have noted that Rector and her expertise have been essential for the smooth management of the SAC.
“I’m very sad to see Ms. Rector resign because she is the backbone of the SAC,” ASB Treasurer Gauvri Nathwani (Sr.) said. “She has worked so closely with ASB for the past 17 years, and we call her the ‘SAC Mom.’ I’m very thankful I got the opportunity to work with her, and I will miss her.”
“When I first started ASB, I had no idea how much work is done behind the scenes by Ms. Rector,” Service Project Commissioner Brandon Kaufman (Sr.) said. “Any free lunch I had I went and helped in the SAC, and Ms. Rector was always willing to help me when I didn’t understand something. She does not get the recognition she deserves and I, as well as the rest of the student body, will miss her when she retires.”
