Boys Varsity Soccer progresses to the quarterfinals of CIF after a 2-1 win against Tahquitz High School on Wednesday, February 22. This win comes after the team defeated Buena Park 3-0 in the first round.
The team won on a free kick in the final minute of overtime. The winning goal was scored by Luis Moros (So.).
The team was down 0-1 at halftime after a slow, but competitive start.
However, in the opening minutes of the second half, the team was able to improve their plays and scored the equalizer, making it 1-1. Darious Abdollahi (Jr.) scored the first goal.
The team’s first half was plagued by struggles to move the ball on offense, due to a strong defense by Tahquitz. In the second half, the team was able to adapt to their opponent’s game plan.
“I’m proud of the team because we never gave up,” Milan Allister (Sr.) said. “…and we kept fighting despite our struggles in the beginning.”
The team was very motivated heading into overtime after having scored making it tie at the end of regulation. “Even though we went into overtime, we figured out a way to win,” said Allister.
The team feels very confident heading into the next round of CIF. “Playing this game into overtime showed us how we are able to dig deep and play our hearts out,” Julian Ricci (Sr.) said. “We are resilient and feel that we can come back from anything.”
