Boys Varsity Volleyball started its preseason off strong by winning against the Estancia Falcons 3-1. The team began the game expecting to win and proceeded to do just that. The boys split the first two sets, but then won the next two to secure the win.
UHS won the first set 25-19, maintaining the lead throughout the set. In the second set, the Falcons kept a steady lead against the Trojans. The Falcons’ two point lead in the beginning turned into a five point lead by the end when UHS lost 20-25.
Team Co-Captain Zach Hsu (Sr.) said, “In the first two sets, we weren’t really focused and the games were just too close. After that, we had a few changes in our lineup which really helped us stay focused and then we did what we really needed to do.”
The boys had a comeback beginning in the third set. With new players rotating, UHS won 25-9 against Estancia. They kept up this momentum by winning 25-12 in the fourth set .
“We’ve progressively played better,” Team Co-Captain Christian Beltran (Jr.) said. “[This year] we want to make CIF and have a 6-4 record with three in League and just finish strong this season.”
The boys’ next volleyball game is on Monday, March 13 at Sage Hill High School.
