Boys Varsity Tennis opened their league season with a dismantling of Northwood, winning 16-2. The seventh-ranked Timberwolves unravelled against the top-ranked Trojans, as the Trojans showed their class over the overmatched Wolves. UHS is on track for an unbelievable eleventh-straight undefeated league season.
The rout was led by Naevin Anukornchaikul (Jr.), winning a close match 7-6 against Northwood’s Nick Wang. Hans Hwang (Sr.) and Ben Sui (Sr.) also beat Northwood’s number one doubles pair 6-4.
The team seemed to be dominant up and down the roster. The depth of UHS sparkled, leading to the easy victory. Leo Krapp (Jr.), who won two of his doubles matches 6-1 and 6-3, said, “Northwood has always had a good tennis program, and they were a challenging team to play. Although we have a pretty young team this year, we had some players step up for this match to guarantee us the win, both starters and subs.”
The school’s game of the week, a much anticipated match up against Beckman, was rained out on Tuesday. The Trojan’s schedule has been slightly impacted as a result, and rescheduling has been an issue. The match may resume on Monday, and their game against CdM may have been pushed from Monday to Tuesday. However, the team has a big game against Woodbridge on Thursday, so fatigue may become an issue. Rescheduling is still being dealt with.
The UHS Boys Tennis program continues their unbelievable league dominance. The team has now won 99 straight league games, dating back to 2006. They will look ahead now to next week, where they will have a chance to make it 100 consecutive league wins.
