Boys Varsity Tennis won yet another league game, this one being a thrashing of Irvine. Winning with a final score of 16-2, the Trojans extended their winning streak to 102 consecutive league wins.
Highlights of the trounce included Naevin Anukornchaikul (Jr.) and Julian Lafond (Jr.) both defeating Irvine’s top singles player 6-0 and 6-2, respectively. The senior doubles duo of Hans Hwang (Sr.) and Anthony Juan (Sr.) also defeated Irvine’s top doubles partnership 6-1.
The team has now won eight games in a row. After a shaky 2-2 start to the year, the team has bounced back and won six of its past seven games by a margin of 10 or more. The Trojans are currently sitting atop the county leaderboard, while the Vaqueros are a little ways down in eighth.
It was a good match for the Trojans to check their progress.
“Our match on Tuesday was an excellent game for both teams. University and Irvine are both young teams where responsibility is placed on a lot of young players,” Leo Krapp (Jr.) said. “Irvine had a few injured players who will make the next match much more competitive, but our team is really developing well this season.”
The Trojans’ stellar record is even more incredible by the fact that they are in the Pacific Coast League. The PCL is the best tennis league in the county and one of the best in the country, yet UHS is favored to win their twelfth straight PCL title this year. Currently all six of the PCL teams are in the county’s top ten.
The Trojans look ahead now to their next matchup, where they will play Beckman on Monday, April 17.
