Boys and Girls Varsity Swim collectively lost 145-195 to Northwood on Wednesday, March 12.
“Northwood is definitely one of our biggest competitors”, Anne Iwata (Jr.) said. Despite their formidable opponent, the team tried their hardest and did relatively well.
Although UHS lost, the team did win several events. Andrew Knoell (Sr.) came first in the 100 yard backstroke, earning a time of 51.62. Knoell is also ranked fourth in all of Orange County for the 50 yard freestyle, according to the OC Varsity Leaderboard.
For the 100 yard Backstroke event, Anne Jang (Sr.) came first, with a time of 1.01. Alondra Ortiz (Jr.) also came second, with a time of 1:01.
The Girls team did well in the 50 yard free, with Anne Jang in the lead once again with a time of 25.44. Vanessa Yang came third with 26.44, and Iwata came fourth with 26.88.
In the 100 Butterfly, both the boys and girls won the event. The lowest time in the boy’s category was 51.34, earned by Wonhee Lee (So), beating Northwood’s time of 52.05. The girls’ record in this event was 1 minute, achieved by Claire Jang (Jr.).
Boys and Girls swim will compete against Irvine High School at their next home meet on Wednesday, April 26.
