In Tuesday’s matchup against the Woodbridge Warriors, Boys Varsity Baseball lost by a final of 9-0. This loss has the Trojans record at 2-6, remaining in 4th place in league.
Farbod Markazi (Sr.) got the nod to start for the Trojans. David Schlomovits (Jr.) was the original starter, but was placed at designated hitter due to illness. Another player who was out of the lineup was starting shortstop Andie Massoto (Jr.), who was out with the flu.
Markazi would go on to pitch 4 ⅔ innings having given up all nine runs, eight of which were earned.
Eddie Dunn (Jr.) would come in to relieve Markazi and pitch the rest of the game. Having pitched a total of 2 ⅓ innings, Dunn only allowed three hits and no runs.
Having pitched almost three innings not giving up a run, Dunn was excited about his performance. He went on to say, “I was happy to get the chance to throw on the mound against our rival and hope I can have similar performances later on.”
The Warriors hit a total of 15 hits while starting Woodbridge pitcher John Schultz kept the Trojans to only five.
In the first inning, the Warriors managed to get five hits and score two to get off to a 2-0 lead.
Early in the second inning, starting third baseman Nick Wetzel (So.) went down with an ankle injury on a groundball to his left side. Ben Hansen (Sr.) would take his place at third while Tristan Lucas (Jr.) came into left field.
In the third inning, Woodbridge would score another run off of consecutive hits. The rest of the runs came from a late 5th inning rally where they managed to hit in 6.
Boys Baseball faces off against the Warriors one last time at Woodbridge this Thursday at Ryan Lemmings, the Warriors’ home field. With this loss, the series is tied at 1-1 with Schlomovits being the likely starter for the final matchup.
In their first game against the Warriors, Collins was the starting pitcher who was able to keep the Warriors at only one run. Without Collins, the Trojans will have to overcome the Warriors this time with Schlomovits on the mound.
With the Warriors being ahead of the Trojans in PCL rankings by three games, the next game is crucial for the team to keep their playoff hopes alive.
