Boys Varsity Golf lost its eighth game of the season against Corona del Mar with a score of 210-198. Playing at their home course, Strawberry Farms, the Trojans came up short in what was a difficult day. Their winless streak continues as they now have an 0-8 record.
The team’s top scorers were Connon O’Brien (So.) and Dylan Kuennemann (Jr.), who shot 37 and 41, respectively. However, both teams struggled, as the Trojans combined to go 30 over the par-180 front nine while the Sea Kings, currently seventh in the county, shot 18 over par themselves.
Despite the rough season, the team is taking these losses as learning experiences. Kuennemann said, “You learn more from losses than wins, so we can take what we learned today and do better on our last few matches.”
Despite the winless season so far, the team has shown flashes of life. They won multiple games in the preseason and have put up some good numbers.
A large reason for the team’s dismal record is its youth; the team has no seniors, one junior, five sophomores, and two freshman. They are banking on these next years to be key in developing the underclassmen, as the departure of four seniors greatly impacted the team.
The Trojans now look ahead to their last two matches, a road game against Irvine on April 25, and a home game against Woodbridge the following day on April 26.
