Girls Tennis was seen all over the leaderboards at the Pacific Coast League Finals, winning both the JV singles and doubles titles, along with the Varsity doubles title.

CdM seemed to have the Trojans’ number to start, eliminating two pairs in the round of 16, another in the quarterfinals, and yet another in the semifinals. CdM entered as the number one ranked team in the Division I CIF rankings, while UHS entered in fifth. However, Ashlyn Wang (Sr.) and Halla Alajeely (Sr.) defeated both of CdM’s top doubles teams, winning the title with a score of 8-3.

“It was just really rewarding to see… our hard work pay off and the amount of heart and determination and fight we both had in the tournament was really what got us the win,” Wang said.

The Trojans extended their success to JV, winning both the singles and doubles titles. Although usually playing for doubles, Snigdha Vayalapadu (Jr.) stepped up and took the singles title with scores of 6-2 and 6-4.

“I still made sure to play aggressively throughout the match, which really paid off,” Vayalapadu said.

Vayalapadu was injured in her semifinal match, but despite the injury, she still won the final against CdM’s number one seeded JV player.

Jocelyn Lau (Fr.) and Tu Trinh (So.) powered through the doubles bracket, winning the finals with scores of  6-4, 6-7, 7-6.
