Boys Basketball loses 90-51 to Northwood

Staff Writer

Boys Varsity Basketball fell to Northwood, 90-51, in their second league game of the season. Coming in having won their first league game against Beckman, UHS looked for a strong 2-0 start, yet the Northwood defense proved too potent for the Trojans. This is the third game this year in which the Timberwolves put up 90, and only the second game where the Trojans couldn’t reach 60.

Forward Alex Bray (Jr.) once again was the Trojans’ leading scorer; in fact, he was the game’s top scorer. However, he did so on 4-15 shooting. The team’s field goal percentage was 36.5%, going 15-41 from the field.

Sloppy plays plagued the Trojans, as they finished with 23 turnovers, a season high. Compared to their nine steals and one block, the Trojans gave the ball away much more than the turnovers they forced. Missed chances also hurt them, as they left behind thirteen points from the line due to their 17-30 free throw performance.

Despite the loss, the players are optimistic of the team’s play. Guard Bryan Nguyen (Jr.) said, “it was a tough loss, but I’m confident we will bounce back.”

The team looks ahead now to their third league game, a road game against CdM on Friday, January 13.
