University High School played Ocean View High School this past Friday, resulting in a 40-26 loss. This game leaves UHS with an overall season score of 0-2 thus far into the year.
University High school was up 20-3 at half time thanks to Junior Brian Bush’s long touchdown pass Sophomore Noah Scherson. After that, in an attempt to score quickly, an attempted pass by Ocean View resulted in Sophomore Patrick Bassily intercepting the ball and running it back for a touchdown. Ultimately, however, University was not able to recover and lost the game 14 points behind their opponent.
“As a team we need to learn from what went wrong in the game and move forward and get better” said defensive linemen Brian Choobin.
University’s Offense has improved from week one, as Bush threw his first touchdown of the season and his varsity career in style, hitting number 17 in stride 30 yards down the field. Another highlight of the game was running back senior Busher Alashor as he rushed for the first offensive touchdown of University’s season. Busher proved to be a hard downhill running back throughout the game, and even played well on the opposite side of the ball at linebacker.
Another stud was right guard and defensive tackle senior Noah Nejad, who managed to apply more than enough pressure to the QB for Ocean View.
“ Our team is progressing week by week. We need to learn how to finish, and when we do, we’re gonna be a pretty good team” said Nejad.
Both offensively and defensively, the Trojans were able to improve from their week one game versus Laguna Hills. The passing game looked much more smooth as the offensive solidified into a much stronger wall of protection for Bush. Alashor looked like much more of a consistent 3 down running back for Uni as he was a tough challenge to tackle for the whole night.
Defensively, both the pass rush and run stop looked more dominant during the game, although the team still has room for improvement.
“ We have a tough preseason schedule that should prepare us for the teams we will face in league, our one goal as a team is to win games and I feel as we progress we will start doing that and once we start rolling as a team that won’t be anything to stop us” said Bush.
The Trojans next game will take place this Friday, September 13th, at 7:00 versus Kennedy High School.
