With the new decade rolling and award season coming about, it’s a good time to look at the movies coming out this year. The foundation of the film industry has drastically changed and moviegoers are highly anticipating big films coming out. From small low budget movies to huge franchise movies, movie audiences are going to be packing the theaters to catch the latest film.
Starting off the list is a continuation of the popular Marvel franchise, “Black Widow.” Black Widow, a.k.a. Natasha Romanova, is one of S.H.I.E.L.D’s most deadly assassins and has made appearances in a multitude of Marvel movies. Scarlett Johansson stars in “Black Widow,” in which she revisits her past and fights her way back to the origin. This highly anticipated, action packed movie is set to release on May 1.
Next on the list is “Tenet,” which was written and directed by the infamous, Christopher Nolan who is known for works such as “Interstellar” and “Inception.” Starring some of Nolan’s classic actors, this thriller film follows a secret agent who is sent to prevent World War lll through time travel. This upcoming action thriller film is set to be released on July 17.
Following “Tenet” is “Wonder Woman 1984,” which features Gal Godot, who starred in the previous hit “Wonder Woman.” This sequel strays from the World War l narrative and moves in the year 1984, where she duels the Cheetah, played by Kristen Wigg, who is the movie’s superhuman villainess. This bright movie filled with nostalgic 80’s references is set to come out on June 4 in Brazil.
In addition to these action packed, star studded movies, several musical adaptations are set to release this year. The movie musicals include Steven Spielberg’s “West Side Story,” which is the famous tale of the Sharks and the Jets in New York City, and comes out on December 18. Walt Disney’s “Mulan,” is not the animated musical we are all used to, but rather moves closer to the original Chinese source material of “The Ballad of Mulan.” This epic story of a daughter who takes her father’s place in way is set to release on March 27. Lin-Manuel Miranda’s “In the Heights.” This musical takes place in a Hispanic American neighborhood in NYC, and the soul filled, hip hop movie is coming out on June 26. Last on the list is John Kraskinski’s sequel to his award winning movie, “A Quiet Place 2.” After facing the death of their father and husband, the Abott family must fight for their survival in silence. They realize that the creatures that hunt for sound aren’t the only creatures lurking in the shadows. This movie releases on March 22.
These movies are just a few of the highly anticipated movies coming out in 2020. Leaving behind a decade of iconic movie series, there is a lot of hope and excitement for the future of American films.
