On December 4, University High School (UHS) girls water polo had their first pre-league game against Laguna Hills. Although they lost 12-8, the team played well.
The game “was good! JV won and Varsity lost, our defense was strong and we also had some really good offensive plays. Key players were Kyla Pickell (Jr.), Maddie Chen (Jr.), and Yasmeen Sobaih (So.),” said Sophia Bajak (So.)
In the first half, UHS was down 8-2, but in the last two quarters, UHS scored 6 goals while Laguna Hills only scored 4.
Regarding a notable goal, Sobaih said, “Sara El Sherif (Sr.) was swimming towards the goal with the ball, with Maddie Chen and two other defenders following. The two defenders both rushed at her as she was about to score when Maddie sort of sneaks around them, receiving the ball from Sara and scores left-handed.”
“It was the first game of the season and overall not bad. I mean, we are slowly coming together as a team for future games,” said Sobaih.
