Wrestling season came to a close this past Friday, February 14th, after nine UHS wrestlers competed in the first round of C.I.F.. Sophomore Patrick Bassily and Junior Captain Rowan Corpus both made the second day of the playoffs, with Corpus placing 6th in his weight class. 
“I’m happy with the results” said Corpus. 
In addition to Bassily and Corpus, the seven other wrestlers who competed in C.I.F. as an individual were Freshman Daniel Mattar, Sophomores Zachary Haughey, Taran Birk, and Amin Derakhshan, Juniors Dylan Ohashi and Justin Andre, and Senior Jair Betancourth. They all placed fourth or better in their respective weight classes during Varsity P.C.L. finals. The C.I.F. tournament lasted two days and required that the wrestlers won twice on the first day to make it to the second day. Bassily and Corpus were the only two UHS wrestlers to win two of their matches. As an individual, Corpus won two and lost two matches come day two, earning him sixth place. 
“I think I did okay at C.I.F., but I know that I could have done a lot better. My goal for next year is to make it into the state tournament in California for wrestling” Andre said. 
With the season now at a close, wrestling looks forward to advancing further into C.I.F. for the upcoming season. Andre spoke of his goals for the team come next season:
“I’m hoping next year that our team will become league champs and make it to C.I.F. duals as a team”.
