The Trojans raced strong in their Track and Field home meet against Huntington Beach on Thursday, March 5th. The Boys won 74-49 while the Girls lost 64.5-57.5.
“The girls Varsity raced well against HB” Junior Captain Collette Lowengrub said. “Even though we didn’t win, everyone tried their best and gave it their all and that’s all that matters. I’m excited for what the rest of the season has in store!”
Lowengrub placed first for girls 800 meter and 1600 meter with a time of 2:34.07 and 5:36.47, respectively. Sophomore Jenna Kim placed first for the girls 100 meter, finishing with a 13.34.
“In practice we really focus on our quick starts and accelerations, which have given me a boost to help maximize my performance throughout sprints” Kim said.
The Trojans also won both of the 4×100 and 4×400 relays. Sophomore Gwen Sanders took second in the 100m and 300m Hurdles, and Junior Henry Feuerborn and Senior Ben Chi placed first and third in the 110m Hurdles, respectively. Girls Varsity swept the 100m, and Boys Varsity took first and second in the same event, with standout first-place runner Sophomore Nicholas Weaver running an impressive 11.31. Junior Anthony Bonfa followed closely behind with a time of 11.96 for second place. Bonfa took first with a 23.84 in the boys 200 meter followed by Junior Yaseen Sattar with a personal record of 24.18.
“The team is looking very strong across every single event so I definitely have very high hopes for this season” Senior Ethan Jenkins said.
Track’s next meet will take place next Thursday, March 19th, at 3:00 PM at Northwood against Northwood High School.
