When the sun seeped into
Our skin,
Causing fatigue
Mixed with bubbly
Hysterical
Joy.
When ice cream,
Cookies,
When sherbert
Made our day.
I see young moms,
Struggling with pins,
Their curls spilling over their peeling shoulders.
Sunscreen
Was interchangeable with
Oxygen.
Boy
Same as
Girl.
The cold water
Was a frightening
Affair.
A delightful fright.
When bellies
Protruded,
And lips cracked,
And the night
Was full of deep voices,
And the mornings hosted
Coffee breath.
When Summer was summer,
And not just a series of
Pointless days.
