With COVID-19 being the talk of the world right now, we all need something to take our mind off all the craziness. If you’ve already finished Tiger King, you’re in luck. There are plenty of documentaries all over Netflix, but here are just a few to help you pass the time as you stay home.
If you’re into conspiracy theories and/or are invested in Shane Dawson’s series on YouTube, the documentary, Conspiracy, is just for you. This documentary examines a series of conspiracy theories that have been influenced by historical events involving aliens, government cover-ups, political assassinations, and many more. Check it out on Netflix, Hulu, or any other streaming service for quick entertainment.
Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat is a documentary series for food lovers or really anyone who enjoys delicious meals. In this docu-series which is unlike any other food show, chef and food writer, Samin Nosrat, travels around the world to find the determining principles of good food. This is Netflix’s first instructional cooking show, and is made more enjoyable by the lovable host who isn’t afraid to show her human imperfections on screen as a chef.
Even if you aren’t a fan of cheer-leading, the documentary, Cheer, might change your mind. Taking place at Navarro college in Texas, Cheer, brings you along the journey of how cheerleaders perfect their craft, while also portraying how cheer-leading affects the body. In some cases, you can even hear the bones of the cheerleaders cracking and breaking. Cheer will have you emotionally invested in the teams and their trials through their vigorous sport.
If you’re a fan of Beyonce or are interested in the music industry, Homecoming: A Film by Beyonce is the documentary for you. This American concert film follows Beyonce through her performance at the 2018 Coachella Festival, and is described as an “intimate, in-depth look” of the concert, revealing “the emotional road from creative concept to a cultural movement.” This film was written and directed by Beyonce herself. In addition to Beyonce’s documentary, Taylor Swift also has a documentary that was released earlier this year, called Miss Americana. This documentary gives a close up glimpse into Taylor Swift’s life and she goes into intimate detail about her life backstage and the course of her career. Swift opens up to the camera about the struggles she’s faced throughout her career and the lessons she’s learned in an overall intriguing fashion.
If you’re more into crime and mystery, be sure to check out Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes. Unlike the film made with Zac Efron, this documentary provides present day interviews, archived footage, and audio recordings of the notorious serial killer, Ted Bundy. This docu-series brings you into the mind of a serial killer and is raw, disturbing, and extremely fascinating.
These are just a handful of the amazing documentaries out there. Some other notable documentaries include, Amanda Knox, American Factory, Dirty Money, Making a Murderer, and Last Chance U. Stay safe and enjoy some documentaries from the comfort of your home!
