And there were two giants.
One red, one blue, and they were the best of friends.
They lived on the mountain next to the village.
The blue giant was loved by the people.
Kids would climb up his burly body and run through his forest of hair.
Dads would ask him to help them move buildings and moms would ask him to give them some shade.
The red giant was feared by the people.
They didn’t like his color, his hair that reminded them too much of fire and anger.
Dads would ask him to get out of the way and mothers would clutch tightly to their children.
But there was the problem.
For the red giant loved the people, more than he loved the blue giant.
And even sadder, the blue giant loved the red giant, more than he loved the people.
One night the blue giant came back home late after letting the village use him to rock climb and found the red giant crying by himself.
The red giant was watching the whole time, wondering why it couldn’t be him.
His strong shoulders and toughened stone body began to break down piece by piece the tears cracking the century-old rocks.
The blue giant couldn’t handle seeing the red giant destroy himself.
The next morning the red giant awoke to the village in flames.
Kids were scrambling, parents were yelling, the village ran up the mountain and began to beg the red giant for help.
Shocked, the red giant began to run to the village where he found the blue giant making the mess of the village.
The red giant cried out “Why are you doing this? Don’t you love the people?”
Crying, the blue giant replied, “But you love them more.”
The red giant chased away the blue giant and the village rejoiced in the red giant’s heroism.
Soon the people began to love the red giant.
Kids would climb up his burly body and run through his forest of hair.
Dads would ask him to help them move buildings and moms would ask him to give them some shade.
It was as if the blue giant was never there.
But the red giant never forgot his closest friend.
The mountain tops sighed lonely, his heart now a different type of empty, a bit lonely even with the hearts of the people he loved.

Interesting translation of the old Japanese fairy tale of the Red Ogre and The Blue Ogre, which was also made into a children’s cartoon in 1968, called “The Crying Red Giant.”

Exact actually, I’ve been searching for a film I saw in 1970’s kindergarten and get so close. This is the exact story. Is this that filmmaker because I would love to watch that animation and can’t seem to find it. Got close to the 1968 movie but it was removed
