Update: Boys soccer loses in first round of CIF

The boys traveled to California High School on Thursday, February 20 to play in the first round of CIF. After a fighting hard, the boys lost 4-1 to the Condors. Brad Huber (Sr.) scored for the Trojans.
The University High School (UHS) boys soccer team clinched a spot in CIF this year after a blowout against the Northwood High School Timberwolves with a score of 4-0. The Trojan’s ended this season with a stunning record of 7-2-1 and claimed 2nd place in the Pacific Coast League.
Captains Mel McCurie (Sr.), Mahyar Shabani (Sr.), and Emilio San Roman (Sr.) engineered the team’s chemistry throughout the season and lead them to success. McCurie, having scored 16 goals this season, carried the team during the season. However, McCurrie would not have been able to achieve all this without the help of his teammates.
The team’s goalkeepers Michael Armand (Jr.) and Cody Nguyen (Jr.), saved countless shots and maintained several clean sheets during season, assisting to the teams triumph. Throughout the season, the team was capable of having a solid defensive line and robust midfielders.
Sweeper Aidan Galassetti (Jr.) praised his teams success by saying “Being one of the best teams in Orange county is amazing, we feel confident going into CIF, but we realize how its going to be a battle if we want to excel this year”.
Center back Alex Yi (Jr.), said “We are really excited about CIF, but worried about what will happen. Win or lose, it doesn’t matter, we gave it our best shot, now that is what matters”.
The CIF bracket has been formed, the Trojans will travel to California High School to face the Condors on Thursday, February 20th.
Midfielder Jake Lebovic (Sr.) stated “California’s Condors will definitely be a tough team for us, but hopefully we can put in a good performance and advance in CIF”.
California High School ended their season with a 6-3-1 record, also achieving 2nd place, but in the Del Rio league. The team will face the Condors in Whittier today, Thursday, February 20 for the first round of CIF.
