As winter sports close, several seniors from different programs at UHS have had outstanding seasons. Among them are senior Chris Mattar from the Boys’ Wrestling team and senior Shervin Moarrefian from Boys’ Basketball, who proudly represented UHS for the final time.
Boys’ Wrestling: Chris Mattar
Mattar led the UHS Boys’ Wrestling team this year with a 22-6 record and an honorable mention in state rankings. His efforts contributed directly to the team’s CIF qualification, where they will send eight athletes to compete.
“My favorite part of the season was senior night and [the large turnout] to support the seniors on our team,” Mattar said.
Mattar’s goal with wrestling is to continue his career and wrestle in college.
Boys’ Basketball: Shervin Moarrefian
With career highs in both rebounds and steals, as well as averaging over 10 points per game for his second consecutive year, Moarrefian played a considerable part in helping the team get more wins in league than they did the last two seasons combined.
As a team captain, Moarrefian recognized how his role had evolved since his high school career began.
“With being a captain, I had a responsibility of keeping the team together and always bringing a good attitude to practices and games,” Moarrefian said.
Following his high school career, Moarrefian aspires to play basketball for fun in college.
Congratulations to our January Athletes of the Month.
