On Feb. 19, the University High School Girls’ Lacrosse team played its first home game against Millikan High School. The team had already played two games beforehand, with mixed results, one win and one loss. However, coming off a victory, the energy was up, both on the field and in the stands. The game ended with a final score of 20-2 to the Trojans, a promising result for the rest of their season.
From the opening whistle, the Trojans controlled possession in all four quarters. The few times the Rams got the ball, they were quickly dispossessed by University’s defense.
In the second half, the Trojans challenged themselves by only using their left hand, a significant disadvantage, but still extended their lead with additional goals.
“I loved how energetic and driven the girls were,” senior captain Alexis Fazeli said. “I’m really proud of the girls for keeping up their hard work and dedication throughout the whole game and never letting their energy drop.”
Fellow senior captain Ella Martiny echoed this statement.
“In this game, we really showed our skills, and I feel like the energy was really up,” Martiny said. “I’m proud and grateful for this team.”
Following the dominant win, Varsity Head Coach Mr. Martin Stibolt emphasized the team’s primary objective for the remainder of the season.
“Our goal for this season is the same as always—we are going to win the league,” Mr. Stibolt said.
The Trojan’s next game is against Woodbridge High School on March 11.
