The UHS Girls’ Varsity Lacrosse team continued their winning streak on Friday, April 18, rolling to a 20-4 win over Capistrano Valley. This game would set the tone for the team to later become league champions.
The Trojans scored their first goal with 10 minutes and 17 seconds left in the first quarter. Thanks to aggressive midfield play and sharp offensive execution, the Trojans gained momentum quickly, leading 5-1 by the six-minute mark. By the end of the first quarter, the Trojans built an impressive 7-2 lead.
“Our success definitely started with our midfield and their ability to communicate and win the ball at the beginning of the game,” junior and goalie Sughra Oonwala said. “It followed into offense in their ability to move the ball and help each other score.”
The second quarter was similar. The Trojans scored within the first minute and added a few more quick goals to boost the score to 14-3 by halftime. Defensive stops and key saves from the Trojans helped hold Capistrano Valley to just three goals through two quarters.
The Trojans then continued with their offense after halftime, with a score of 14-3 at around halfway through the third quarter, and ending it with a 17-4 lead. The Trojans finished super strong in the final quarter, locking in the 20-4 victory with precise ball movement and consistent defensive pressure.
“As a team, we all connect really well together and have no trouble communicating and helping each other on the field when a teammate is in trouble,” Oonwala said.
The Trojans carried their momentum into the following game on Monday, April 21, when they officially became league champions, ending their strong season.
