The UHS Girls’ Flag Football team defeated the Westminster Lions 29-0 during their Labor Day matchup on Aug. 30 at the UHS Stadium.
Coming off a 6-0 loss to Rosary High School, the Trojans were determined to win. This built a strong mentality that they carried throughout the game.
“I was confident going into the game because our team was well prepared and I felt assured that we would win,” running back and sophomore Rebecca Lee said.
The first points of the game were scored by sophomore Chloe Cho, who got the Trojans two points with her safety. This was followed by junior Arden Marchiorlatti scoring both the first touchdown and the extra point.
“It was amazing to be able to score,” Marchiorlatti said. “I was able to be happy for myself and my team.”
Senior Charlotte Beckman added on to the Trojans’ total by scoring a touchdown of her own. Freshman Ella Carmichael continued this streak through a third touchdown, with Rebecca Lee securing the extra point.
“I feel like [the first touchdown] really brought the team together and showed we are going to win,” Marchiorlatti said. “After that, I feel like the team as a whole was just very confident in the way we were playing and that allowed us to go out and win.”
Cho scored the fourth and final touchdown of the game as the Trojans completed their 29-0 shutout against Westminster. They hope to continue their momentum and want to move into the rest of the season with the same winning mindset.
“I plan to carry the same confidence into our next games while working with my teammates to improve the skills that got us this victory,” Lee said.
The Trojans will play their next game on the road against the Sage Hill Lightning on Sept. 22.
