The fourth season of Amazon’s animated superhero show “Invincible” was released on March 18, building on the previous seasons’ intensity and focus. Mark continues to develop as a character, deeply affected by the events and tragedies from prior seasons and the knowledge of the thousands of deaths he indirectly caused. As his responsibilities increase, he becomes much more calculating and cold, giving him depth. In addition to individual characters, the season also emphasizes the relationships between characters. One of the most notable examples is Mark’s father, Nolan, who must accept that he won’t be easily forgiven by his family or friends for his actions and must repair his broken relationship with his other son. Compared to earlier seasons, Season 4 focuses more on the characters’ emotions and internal state, not just their actions, making the story more compelling.

Another major strength of “Invincible” is the action scenes. Many of the fights this season feature strong, detailed animation and include intense, climactic moments. However, the animation quality is not nearly as strong throughout the rest of the season; many scenes have noticeable drops in animation quality, with many individuals online mentioning that the show more closely resembles moving .png files or a slide presentation rather than an animated show. Despite this shortcoming, the mix of action and story helps keep the season interesting and intriguing, even if most of the animation is subpar.
