On Thursday, September 11 the University High School girls tennis team fought its way to victory against Fountain Valley High School with a final score of 13-5. The team dominated in every set, forehanding and backhanding its way to victory.
Captain Becca Kim (Sr.) said, “I think the team is really starting to grow. Since we lost a lot of players last year, it’s been really important to use every player we have now to work together and get stronger. Everyone is working hard. I’m excited to see how far we can go this year.” Despite temperatures reaching high as 89 degrees, the Trojans solidified their victories until the end.
The victory marks the girls tennis team’s third win in a row, bringing them to a 3-0 season record, a smashing start to the year despite the graduation of several of the team’s key doubles players, Danielle Pham, Kyla Scott, and Marisa Williams. Captain Kayti Luu (Sr.) said, “We have so many talented players and no team works on doubles as hard as we do with all the formations and play strategy. If we continue working hard I’m sure we can build up teams just as strong and make this season the best yet.”
The next girls tennis match will be an away game against Campbell Hall at 3:15 PM.
