On Tuesday, September 23, the University High School (UHS) girls volleyball team faced the Foothill Knights and swept the visitors with a score of 3-0.
In the first match, the Trojans beat the Knights 25-20. In the next game, Foothill stepped up its efforts and almost emerged victorious. However, the Trojans retaliated and pulled through to win the second and third games 25-23 and 25-22, respectively. After three close games, the Trojans were able to clinch the victory. UHS performed exceptionally well in terms of serving, clearing 94.6% of serves over the net, their highest serving average all season. Captain Neeka Barooni (Sr.) said, “The Trojans are short and don’t have any huge hitters so [we] put most of our focus on serving and that has been working really well for us.”
Klaire Thoman (Fr.), a starting libero and defensive specialist, was selected player of the match. She said, “[UHS] did not play perfectly but played consistently. We didn’t let up and that’s what you need to win a game”.
The Trojans are currently 3-5 in season. They will be facing Laguna Hills High School at home on September 26. The Trojans are looking to fine tune their game before next Thursday, October 2, when they will face the Woodbridge Warriors at Woodbridge High School  for the first official league game.
