Boys Water Polo finishes 27th in South Coast Tournament

Boys water polo participated in the South Coast Tournament from September 25 to September 28. After playing five games, the team placed 27th in the tournament overall.
University High School (UHS) played its first game of the tournament on Thursday against Huntington Beach High School (HBHS). The Trojans gave it all they had but HBHS took the win with a final score of 14-4. Kian Matin (Sr.) scored twice, while Daniel Campanaro (So.) and Oliver Ma (Sr.) both scored once.
The next game was against Capistrano Valley High School (CVHS) on Friday. It was another tough match, ending with a score of 14-5 with CVHS taking the victory. Campanaro scored two goals and Nick Injev (Sr), Jacob Ghahrmani (Jr.) and Ma each scored one as well. Goalkeeper Matt Moran (So.) made a stunning 14 saves.
UHS’s second game on Friday was against Long Beach High School. UHS emerged victorious with a score of 9-5. Ma scored 4 times and Campanaro, Injev, Matin, Brad Nunamaker (So.) and Rasla each scored once.
On Saturday, UHS put up another good fight against Graces Memorial High School (GMHS), but GMHS came out victorious with a final score of 8-7. Injev ,Campanaro and Ma scored twice, and Matin scored once.
The boys’ last game against Bakersfield on Saturday was extremely close, and they just barely lost with a score of 7-6. Injev scored twice, Campanaro scored twice, Ma had one goal and Matin also scored once.
The boys water polo team is not discouraged. Injev said, “We have the potential and the chemistry. We just need to connect better during the games. This is a good reality check before League starts.”
