The Sword and Shield’s November boys athlete of the month is Eric Kawana (Jr.) who has been on Varsity track and cross country for two years.
When asked why he fell in love with the sport, Kawana said, “What makes this sport special to me is that when I put forth a lot of effort in, I know success will surely come.”
Eric’s personal record for the three-mile in cross country is 16:26. His personal records for track are 4:50 in the one-mile and 10:23 in the two-mile.
When asked about his future goals, Kawana said that he wishes to attend UCI when he graduates. Furthermore, University High School’s cross country program has a list of 25 of the best runners in all of UHS’s history. His goal is to be on that list. “My goals consist of me getting on to the top 25 in the school’s history. I hope to make it this year, but if not, there’s always next year,” said Kawana.
Kawana said that he would like to thank the following coaches for his achievements: Mr. Eric Davies (Science Dept.), former teacher Mr. Dan Wroblicky and Ms. Katie Levensailor (Science Dept.).
