University’s (UHS) boys soccer played an exciting match against Godinez (GHS) on Wednesday, December 17. The ball remained on both sides of the field equally. Marcos Fernandez (Sr.) played aggressively, frequently passing to Indiana Fuller (Sr.), Tommy Levasseur (Sr.) and Riley Duncan (Sr.). UHS’s defense connected well with passes consistently throughout the game.
Evan Mouchard (Fr.) was first to every ball and fed center mid-field Aidan Galassetti (Sr.) fantastic leading passes that resulted in many shooting opportunities on goal. Goal-keeper Ameen Beheshtaein (Jr.) made multiple miraculous saves and blocked several one-on-ones.
Despite the Trojans teamwork, GHS was able to score a goal during  the second half of the match, leaving the score 0-1.
Captain Adam McDermott (Sr.) said, “I know our team can perform at a higher level. We played good but not great and this game was a good reminder of how league is going to be. This team was challenging but we are a lot better than how we played. We definitely don’t enjoy losing on our home field.”
Levasseur said, “We needed this match to get us fired up. We know we can’t afford to slip up once on defense in order to win league and that’s our ultimate goal so we can go to CIF.”
The team opens league play against Woodbridge on December 8 at the UHS field.
