On Thursday, February 5, the girls varsity team played against Corona del Mar (CDM) and won 2-1.
In the first half, Kathy Guo (Jr.) scored a goal, putting the Trojans up 1-0 at half time. She was outside the 18 yard box and shot a bullet into the net. Guo said, “As I received the ball I looked up to find an opening to shoot. As I took my last touch towards goal, I decided to shoot and nailed the ball into the net. This was my first goal of the season and it was a memorable one.”
During the second half of the game, CDM remained strong, but UHS pulled through and maintained the lead. Hanna Ghamari (Sr.) scored her first goal of the season, clenching the win against CDM. After Ghamari’s goal, CDM had one final push, scoring in the last minutes of the game. Isabelle Langlois (Jr.) said,” When CDM scored in the last minutes of the game, we knew we had to take action so they wouldn’t score again. The game became violent and we fought our socks off to clench the win.”
Unfortunately, there was one injury in the game. One CDM attacker collided heads with Iva Petkov (So.), resulting in a mild concussion for Petkov.
The Trojans are currently 2-3-2 in league. UHS’s February 3 game against Beckman has been rescheduled to tomorrow, Wednesday February 11, and the team plays Irvine the next day on Thursday, February 12. UHS plays Northwood, today, Tuesday, February 10, away at Northwood.
