UHS Boys tennis played its first away game of the year against Santa Margarita on February 26, sealing a win with a score of 12-6. Next, the Trojans traveled to play Harvard-Westlake on March 3. Although the Trojans played well and battled for every possible point, they fell short and lost 6-12.
Konrad Kozlowski (Sr.) and Patryk Kozlowski (Fr.) each won two games, while Ardalan Safi (Sr.) and Riku Hashiyada (Sr.) each won one.
Although the team was disappointed with the loss, the team regained its momentum to face Peninsula at home on March 5. The Trojans captured a win with a score of 12-6.
Co-captain Hashiyada said, “We played two of the toughest team in Southern California in one week. Unfortunately we lost against Harvard Westlake and our long streak since 2007 in dual match is gone. But we learned a lot from that match. We don’t have star players like previous years anymore so we need to really unite together as a team and get as many possible wins as possible. It’s only the beginning of the season and our ultimate goal is to win the CIF title once again. We have a lot of time to improve and I’m sure we will play Harvard-Westlake again in the future. Peninsula was also a tough team and we played great. We learned from our loss on Tuesday (Harvard-Westlake) and made a great adjustment to seal the win. We have another tough match against Los Alamitos next Tuesday so we need to keep our performance and further improve.”
