Despite coming off an impressive win, Brandon Mattson (Sr.) said in the locker room before the game, “I’m hungry. I want to demolish these guys and I believe we will. I trust my brothers here to play some good football.”
Mattson was right in his prediction, as the Trojans (2-0) beat Little Rock (0-2) by a score of 37-0. They have outscored their first two opponents 73-6.
With a packed student section and an electric atmosphere, the Trojans were eager to put on a show in their home opener. Similar to their first game, UHS jumped to a huge lead in the first quarter. Tallying four touchdowns in their first 11 offensive plays, the score was 27-0 by the end of the first quarter. Runningback Matt Abellaneda (Sr.) proved once again to be a major contributor to the Trojan offense, finishing the game with seven carries for 98 yards and two touchdowns, all in the first quarter. The 5′ 5″, 140 pound senior set the tone for the game early, by running un-touched around the right side for a 12-yard touchdown on UHS’s third play, as well as an additional 6-yard run to cap the scoring in the first quarter.
Bellal Mohebi (Sr.) also contributed to the Trojans’ dominant rushing with an 11 yard touchdown run of his own. Trojan tight end Michael Jung (Sr.) finished with 71 receiving yards and a touchdown. Neil Boudreau (Sr.) had a relatively quiet game, due to the dominance of the running game early. The senior quarterback was still efficient, completing three of five passes for 71 yards. Boudreau was impressed by the turnout of their first home game, and believes that it helped the team dominate on both sides of the ball in a decisive victory.
The Trojans look to stay undefeated next Friday when they take on Calvary Chapel at home.
