UHS Girls Tennis fed off of the Trojan Army spirit to defeat Beckman High School (BHS) for its Game of the Week (GOW).  However, a different lineup contributed to a loss against Northwood.
In a Pink-Out GOW supporting the fight against breast cancer, UHS defeated the Patriots 14-4. The Trojans were supported throughout the match, by an unprecedented amount of fans cheering them on, their match being the highlight of the UHS sports week.
“I think all the people made playing less serious and more relaxing,” Anja Seng (Sr.) said. “Being relaxed helps us to play more confidently and I personally love the hype of having people cheer us on.”
Following the victory, UHS took on Northwood with a completely shifted lineup due to the loss of the injured Ashlyn Wang (Jr.). Michelle Maddox (Sr.), losing her usual partner, played this match with Sasha Iraniha (So.). Maddox and Iraniha, though not normally partnered, won all of their games against the Timberwolves.
“I did have to step up my game as the veteran on the court,” Maddox said. “But this was the best I have seen Sasha play and I’m so proud of her. I think she was the star of the match.”
Although Maddox and Iraniha swept their games, UHS fell 7-11, and the Trojans now hold a 5-2 Pacific Coast League record.
Melina Gharibian (Sr.) said, “The team realized that we need to keep working hard and focus on the upcoming matches. Season is almost over and we want to get as far into the postseason as possible.”
UHS looks to come back strong in a tough match-up with Corona Del Mar.
