“YouTube” and “productivity” aren’t two words that usually go together, but the channel FightMediocrity is attempting to change that. Created in 2014, the channel greets visitors with its mantra “Big Ideas for a Better Life.” FightMediocrity’s creator, Malkhaz Geldiashvili, is dedicated to helping people find the courage to do what they are passionate about. His videos are packed with tips for increasing productivity and reviews of self-improvement books, drawing thousands of views and featuring easy-to-follow animations. With topics like “How To Have More Willpower” and “The Obstacle is The Way,” FightMediocrity is a source of inspiration for everyone from tired students to the avidly health-conscious.
I first came across the channel while procrastinating for finals. FightMediocrity drew me in with its interesting animations and passionate host. Geldiashvili clearly knows what he’s talking about, and he makes those generic “self-help” books seems that much more interesting. FightMediocrity is a unique kind of channel: the host both reads from known self-improvement texts and incorporates his own opinions and tips. With videos explaining “Why Things Catch On” and “How Much Can You Make on Youtube,” FightMediocrity’s content is far from dry, and the channel attracts viewers of all ages. Since the channel was founded, over 250 thousand people have subscribed, and hundreds more pour in each week.
Procrastinating on YouTube will never truly be a good thing, but with FightMediocrity comes a way to procrastinate productively. Susan Lee (Sr.) said, “I was introduced to this channel by a friend, and though I was still really stressed about finals, it helped me study better. Some of the videos aren’t all that relevant to students, but a few helped motivate me to stop procrastinating.”
With over sixty uploaded videos, the FightMediocrity channel has something for everyone.
