Girls Soccer triumphs over Laguna Beach 3-1

Varsity Girls Soccer triumphed over Laguna Beach High school in a 3-1 win on Tuesday, January 2.  Having lost to Laguna Beach a month prior in a tournament, this game served as a redemption match for the Trojans.
In an interview with OC Varsity, Coach Ignacio Cid (Athletics Dept.) noted that Laguna Beach was very “similar to a Woodbridge, a Northwood, and a Beckman [team]. So we treat it like a league game.”
The three goals were scored by Amanda Kutcher (So.), Paige Metayer (Jr.), and Remy Kaufman (Jr.). When asked what went well in this game, Kaufman accredited the team’s victory to their ability to “break down their [Laguna’s defense] defense and counter with speed.” Emma Goolsby (Jr.) added that “the team’s chemistry is really coming along this year. Our players are maturing and growing to each other’s weaknesses and strengths.”
Both Kaufman and Goolsby noted Metayer’s exceptional performance during the last few games. Metayer, who has committed to UC Berkeley for Girls Soccer, was a driving force in the team’s offensive line against Laguna Beach. Although a numberof shots did not score a goal, Metayer was able  to effectively progress the ball forward and provide her teammates with several opportunities to score.
As for the rest of the season, the team is excited and hopes to accomplish “1st or 2nd place in league,” according Kaufman. Although she believes that the team has a good shot in achieving that goal, she also notes that the team needs to “work on movement off the ball and anticipate plays.” Nonetheless, the team holds a current record of 7-3-1 as they open up league season with Beckman on Thursday, January 5.
