Yellow Jacket: a poem

A muddy yellow jacket lays on the ground
Its edges have begun to fray
My companion on the playground
My closest friend from night to day
The jacket has grown so tight
And the yellow fades into grey
It has seen its fair share of sunlight
It has felt its fair share of rain
Gaping holes have been mended with patches
And the patches now become undone
Through all the falling, skidding, and catches
It’s instilled with the memories of fun
Everything withers with time
Even this jacket I held so dear
The school bells cease to chime
As I wander through the years
