Black Thoughts

As the wind howls and whistles through the freezing night,
I sit on the cold sidewalks, dirty with the litter and dirt of other people.
Staring longingly at the lit up homes,
I think about how I could be like those people.
Stuffing turkey in my mouth, laughing and reveling in good company,
The hot ember of jealousy jerks me upright as I remember who did this to me.
My face contorts into a twisted smile as the black thoughts hit me again,
Just thinking of the person that made me lose everything.
I vow to myself that they will pay.
