Varsity Cross country sent two female runners to CIF after League Finals, which took place at Irvine Regional Park on Wednesday, November 1.
Boys Varsity placed fifth out of six teams, and Girls Varsity placed fourth out of six teams. Many runners achieved new personal bests at the meet.
The race also signified the end of cross country for many upperclassmen runners and gave them the opportunity to look back on their career. Girls Varsity also achieved some huge personal gains and school records. Cecilia Langlois (Jr.) and Collette Lowengrub (Fr.) qualified for CIF.
Langlois was injured for most of the season but set a school record of sixth fastest race for University with a time of 17:23, placing second out of 42 runners during the meet. “I focused on getting tons of rest and food for a few days leading up to the race which helped a lot,” Langlois said.
“When my race started, I sprinted and tried to not take it easy at any part,” Lowengrub, who finished fourth with a time of 17:54, said. “I was so happy when I saw my time and that I had made it to CIF.”
Varsity runner Ryan Duffy (So.) ran the fastest time of the day for UHS and a personal best with a time of 15:59 and finished his race seventeenth out of 42. Boys JV team finished second out of six teams and Girls JV placed third out of four teams. Boys Frosh-Soph placed fourth and Girls Frosh-Soph placed fifth.
A notable times of the day in the JV and Frosh-Soph races included Allen Yamamuro (Jr.) who ran a time of 17:00 and finished eleventh out of 198 runners. Ayush Nair (Sr.), with a time of 16:47 in the JV race, finished third out of 97 runners. Reese Carlton (Jr.), placed fifth in the same race with a time of 17:01. On the girls team, Maddison Lough (So.) finished fifteenth in the Frosh-Soph race with a time of 21:39, and Amber Sun (Jr.) finished eighteenth in the JV race with a time of 21:53.
