Varsity Boys Soccer won by a landslide against Irvine High at a home game on January 17.
This puts their league score at 3-0 and their record at 10-1-2. Sophomore Sebastian Hertel scored two goals, junior Darius Abdollahi scored two, and sophomore Omar Sabbagh scored one. Junior Lee McEligot had three assists while both senior Jeremy Koo and Omar Sabbagh had one assist each.
“We were just the better team,” said coach Martin Carrington. “They weren’t on the same level as us.” Also coach Carrington is looking forward to CIF championships and in order to keep this winning streak, “we have to manage mentally, manage the practice, how hard we practice and how long we practice,” but, “more than anything our boys have to work hard to prove themselves because other teams in our league are just as dangerous.”
“We did what we have to do, we dominated them,” said Sabbagh. Sabbagh made a brief analysis of Irvine’s performance. “They didn’t make any chances, their defense was really weak, and they weren’t organized.” For the remaining season, Sabbagh wants to “keep improving and improving and getting better.”
“We got into rhythm in the first half and it got easy from there,” said Koo, who had one assist. “Irvine was good but we were the better team.”
“[Irvine] was quick on the ball and good on the counter but we were able to neutralize that and keep it clean,” junior Giorgio Conta said. He added, “hopefully we can win league if we keep on winning like that.”
“We were really aggressive and we played really well.” senior Kian Mohseni said. Mohseni looked forward to his next away game against Woodbridge on January 18.
