After losing to Irvine High 10-12, Boys Lacrosse is now 1-5 in league and 4-9 overall this season. Despite a struggle in league, the team agrees that they experienced many opportunities and games in order to grow and hone their skills as a team.
The team overcame several injuries, with junior Brandon Hariyanto being out for five weeks and starter player Phát Nguyễn out for one week. Following the injury, Nguyen was overjoyed to play again. “It was just an amazing feeling to be able to come back from an injury and play with all I got with my fellow teammates,” said Nguyen.
Junior Eric Lim, another strong player also injured his hand yet was able to make many games after a speedy recovery. “I’m just thankful I was able to bounce back quickly and play well,” said Lim.
The Trojans are also known for their explosive offense and starting team, consisting of players like senior Nick Khamseh, juniors Oliver Kubit and Lucas Hall, and sophomore Matt McCarthy. Khamseh in particular scored in many games, and was a key component in achieving goals for the team.
He was also proud of his achievement in leading others in his team, and how he was “able to help lead some of the younger players to become very talented lacrosse players who will take over the team once [he] leaves”.
Overall, senior Co-Captain Ryan Hane considered the season to be a success, and “a whole lot of fun”. Hane admitted that the team “could have done a better job at working with our younger players to strengthen our line up… but overall it has been a blast”.
When recalling his favorite match of the season so far, Hane favorited the match against Irvine. “We practically shut them out and I got an assist that game, which is rare for defenders,” said Hane.
