Boys soccer defeated Irvine High School 2-0 on Friday, January 25 at an away game. Earlier in the season, the team tied to Irvine 0-0, but they were able to prove their dominance in their second matchup, showing progress as a team.
“With the new lineup, we have been lacking in brilliance,” sophomore Rohit Chawla said. “This game, our team finally played with the brilliance and unity that we had been previously lacking.”
Two very strong players, Seniors Sam Kammerman and Sebastian Hertel, were injured in recent games, resulting in the new lineup.
It was amazing to see the team come together to win against Irvine at our senior night because with Sam and Sebastian injured we’ve had to adjust a lot,” senior Giorgio Conta said. “I think the game against Irvine was our first solid performance with our new lineup.”
With one assist, Conta was named the player of the game for his great performance. It was also the senior night game, honoring the many seniors have stuck with the team and helped to build the program.
“I’m really happy with our first-half performance as a team and that we could honor our seniors with this win,” sophomore Andrew Jang said. “I’m excited to play in CIF and I hope we can make it as far as possible.”
This win gave the team more momentum, which will hopefully carry on to CIF.`
